today I wanted to write a message to a friend of mine but I wasn't sure whether he was logged in or not..
I knew that the easiest way to find that out would be just send him a message regardless and see the response.
But still wouldn't it be more helpful to have a list of player names with their status situated next to the chat bar?
(Something like a friends list or just a list of all players.)
I have also drawn a little example as to how it may look like.
The little green/red lights you could see next to the player name would be like a status.
Red - Offline
Green - Online
Orange - AFK
...
And I'd also move the "online players count" somewhere above the "players list" panel.
